In my opinion, this is the best hydration carrier and hydration bladder i've ever seen and used. Very high quality. As I could expect with CamelBak.
The "Ambush" has a spacious and easy to get into main bladder compartment. There are 2 storage pockets on the outside that have awesome use. There are 2 D rings on each shoulder strap, allowing nice channeling of the hydration tube, there are 4 hydration tube openings on the body of the Ambush (4 different locations to channel your tube from), there are 2 nice storage compartments on the outside of the Ambush, there is the nice name tape velcro on the top, and the bladder itself is awesome. It is CamelBak's Omega 3L reservoir, with their "hydrolink" installed.
If I could give it 6 stars I would!

Great, but not an all day solution. July 25, 2011

In operations on the border in 110 degree plus weather I went through at least two sometimes three fill ups a day. There is nothing worse than running dry when you are far from resupply. Luckily I always carry backups. Other than that it is a great item!

Excellent small hydration pack. June 20, 2011

I have owned the Camelbak Ambush AB500 in Coyote for about a  year and a half now. I have put it through it's paces hiking, backpacking, etc. This pack is perfect for someone looking for a lightweight hydration bladder which can hold some small items. I stress the small aspect of that. In order to fit in the top compartment, the item must be small and flat.  I normally place bare essentials in this bag, such as my Surefire, a knife, a few powerbars, a poncho, and the Camelbak cleaning kit.  (The cleaning kit is an absolute must if you plan on using this, it cleans and allows for safe long term storage of the bladder. That way you don't have to worry about funk building up inside the bladder.)

Overall, I would say this is perfect for someone looking a hydration bladder which can also hold a few essential items.

This piece of gear replaces two canteens and a small buttpack.  I have worn this hiking, mountain biking, and daily while in the Reserves.  The small upper pocket will carry several meal bars, and the lower pocket has no problem keeping a Surefire G2, pair of gloves, and multi-tool.  The straps adjust easily, and just as importantly, stay adjusted.  Typical CamelBak construction, delivered quickly by SKDTAC.  I am very pleased with it.
