EOTech 516.A65/1 Holographic Sight

This model is the new upgrade model to the 512.A65.  Among its improved features, are a battery life that is unrivaled by any other EOTech model, boasting over 1100 hours of continuous use.  The raised base allows for a proper bottom 1/3 co-witness with iron sights, negating the need for an additional raised platform.  The forward portion is raised to allow it to be mounted forward and fit over the oval M4 handguards.  The improved cross-bolt will not back out under recoil when installed with the appropriate tension.  The side buttons allow for easy access while maintaining a cheek-weld on a rifle, making brightness adjustments quick and easy!

Best looking Eotech July 15, 2010

I love the 516, if you look at all the models, this and the 517 have the best looking hoods of them all. Same great Eotech performence. And the fact that it comes with an mounting system, which returns to zero, means it will cost you much less then other red dot systems out there. It gets 4 stars as it does weigh a bit much compared to the higher end Eotechs.

A friend of mine talked me into an EOTech and I couldn't be more happy that he did.
I chose the 516.A65/1 due to the increased battery life, the raised base and especially the side mounted buttons. It was only a couple of dollars more than the 512.
The brightness levels are ample in all lighting conditions, and adjustments are easily made with a coin for windage and elevation. Target aquisition is a breeze.
It holds the CR123 batteries, so if you are stuck on a AA preference, you should try a different model.
The only minor problem for me (and I do mean minor) is that with large fingers, it can be a slight task to shut off the unit (You have to hold both buttons simultaneously), though the same can probably said about any of the other models.
Next up, the 3X magnifier FTS!

123 Battery Life & EOTech's Excellent Red Dot. January 7, 2010

This is hard to beat for the price.  The body feels very solid, and it will last through bashing around.  The side buttons are less likely to get obstructed than rear button versions.  The red dot is very crisp, and the 65 MOA ring helps make the 1MOA quickly aimed.  You can use a quarter to adjust the sight adjustment screws, and tighten the mount.  The battery life obviously isn't as great as options from that other brand, but for this price I'm not complaining about it.  Overall this is a great balance of price, 123 battery life, and durability.  I do wish this was a bit lower profile.  BTW: the manual recommends using a cleaner like Windex, so that the anti-glare coating isn't removed.
