Emdom Immediate Access Pouch (IAP)

Emdom-MM Immediate Access Pouch (IAP) is the latest collaboration between Emdom USA and MM at militarymorons.com. The IAP is a MOLLE compatible, low profile, truly open-top magazine pouch designed for 30 or 20 round AR-15 magazines. The IAP offers immediate / unrestricted one-handed access of a magazine, multi-level mounting (high, medium, low) on a belt / MOLLE platform, and one-handed insertion of the magazine into the pouch. The IAP fits standard USGI mags, TangoDown ARC, Magpul PMAG and EMAG, Lancer, HK mags etc

Key Features & Design highlights:

  • Open-top design: no covers, flaps, or bungees to restrict extraction and insertion of magazine.

  • Low profile: simple and neat, just like a layer of skin over the magazine without added bulk.

  • Immediate unrestricted access: a true open-top design with a low cut pouch body. Exposes enough of the magazine body to gain a good grip on the magazine, yet retain it securely. The IAP works for both 30 and 20 round magazines.

  • Triple retention: three types of passive retention are employed to prevent the magazine from falling out accidentally.

    1) There is a 1.5” wide elastic sewn around the outside of the IAP, providing the main elastic retention.
    2) The inner surface of the back panel is lined with Hypalon (rubber coated material) which provides frictional retention between the magazine and the back panel.
    3) A thin layer of foam is sandwiched inside the back panel. When the magazine is inserted, the foam is compressed, and pushes back on the magazine, providing additional frictional retention.

These three features work together, allowing immediate extraction of a magazine while retaining a fully loaded magazine under most conditions.
  • PALS / MOLLE / ALICE compatible: by MALICE Clips (long or short clips, not included).
  • Full size mounting platform: The IAP features a HDPE stiffening sheet, full size mounting platform at the back (6” tall x 3” wide; 5 rows of PALS) which accepts both long and short MALICE clips making “multi-level mounting” possible (see below).
  • Multi-level mounting (MOLLE surface or Belt): Most low cut mag pouches have a very short body. When mounted them on a belt or the sides of the body armor, the magazine can be too high, making it awkward to extract. To solve the problem, the IAP has a full size mounting platform. The user can mount the IAP at different heights (high, medium, low) to suit his preference and style. Short Malice clips can be mounted at three different levels (if you're mounting to a MOLLE surface), or four (if you're mounting to a 2" wide belt).
  • One-handed insertion: The opening of the IAP is stiffened with a HDPE ring / insert, and it stays open all the time. The user can easily insert a magazine with one hand.
  • Drainage: A metal grommet is located at the bottom of the pouch for sand or water to escape.
  • Magazine compatibility: The IAP fits most brands of AR-15 magazines, including USGI, TangoDown ARC, Magpul PMAG and EMAG, Lancer, HK etc.
  • Mil-spec materials: IAP is built from 1000 denier mil-spec Cordura nylon and mil-spec material; with Emdom’s excellent workmanship.
  • It is available in Multicam, Sewer Green, Coyote and Black. Backed with Emdom’s lifetime warranty. For set up and usage, please visit MM's IAP Writeup at www.militarymorons.com.

Best "happy mag" pouch I have ever used. March 31, 2014
Reviewer: Dave L. from A-stan
I have been wearing these on my belt as my "happy mag" pouch for the past 2 years in A-stan. The beauty of this pouch is that it holds the mag secure, while being able to draw fast, and the stiffener keeps the pouch mouth open to easily insert mags under time and stress.

Has potential, but handicapped by a few issues June 10, 2013
Reviewer: bruin from USA
The IAP has excellent mounting height flexibility and is easy to insert mags into.  However, the retention is weak with Lancer AWMs - I could easily shake loaded mags out.  The rubber strip inside is probably no more grippy than bare Cordura (wayyyy less than BFG Ten-Speeds).  I had to add retention with shock cord looped around the pouch, but I couldn't tighten it as much as I wanted because the mag would snag on the fabric during insertion.

The strip of tan elastic in front covers more than 1/3 of the Multicam fabric and isn't even the proper coyote color.  The plastic strip at the opening should be relieved at the corners so it forms a [ instead of a (.  The inside of the pouch should be doubled all the way to the bottom since mag corners will wear at it.

The concept behind the IAP is sound, but not so the execution.  I'd like to see a Gen2 version with a genuine Hypalon strip inside, an improved opening stiffener, and shock cord in front instead of elastic.

quick action April 28, 2013
Reviewer: Emilio G from Sunnyvale, CA United States
i really like open-top tensioned holders like this.  i have two on a padded belt just off-center on the weak side, and drawing magazines is super easy.  re-insertion becomes easy, as well, once there's been a magazine in it for a couple days.

i haven't tried the taller open-top pouches with the Kydex insert, but i think i might prefer the size of these EMDOMs since they fit GI 20rd mags so well.  really, the fit is beautiful with a Magpul loop on the 20rd'er!

these also have a nice fit for loaded Esstac shotgun cards.  three rounds poke up from the top, and it's an easy draw as long as you pull towards your body.

i feel like the elastic could be just a bit more snug and still retain the ease of re-insertion.  also, it's a bit of a steep price for a foreign-made single-mag pouch.

these kinds of pouches also aren't crazy jump-able.  pocket the mags or have spare space in your flap-tops for really bumpy rides.

Simple is somtimes best. April 5, 2013
Reviewer: SKGoodman from Casper, WY United States
Emdom's IAP's are a simple product that works as advertised. Great retention of magazines, but not so much that your fighting to get them in and out of the pouch.  Running them with PMAGS and battle belt. So far they have been great. we'll see how they do over the long term.

Best I've used!! March 11, 2013
Reviewer: Aaron from Gilbert, AZ United States
Have tried both the Taco's and the KYWI pouches and returned both because I was Unsatisfied with either the retention or the ability to insert the mags one-handed. The Emdom IAP Has the best of both worlds! Great retention along with easy one-handed Extraction and insertion Of any M4 mag. I have PMAGS, Battle Mags and G.I. Mags and they all work In this system. Great quality workmanship on the material and love how low profile it is. A great feature too is how you can adjust the height you want to mount the pouches at. I mount mine low for easier access. Very pleased with this product and highly recommend. Finally found a keeper, these won't be returned! As always SKD got them to me lightening fast in two days! I can always count on the guys at SKD.
