Great Product October 18, 2011

Love this vest. It is light yet durable, and the ability to add a back plate is a nice touch, though I opted out of using one since its slightly awkward and pointless to have it attached when you are wearing a camelbak or backpack. Great vest, has plenty of room and the adjustability is awesome, being that Im a smaller than average person. I was able to adjust the waist and shoulder straps to fit me fine. I would recommend this to anybody looking for a convenient, light yet durable chest rig.

Well-fitting piece of equipment June 14, 2011

Made in the usual EI quality the RRV is my favorite rig. Using it on a armor carrier will make it fit perfectly on those of us who aren't that big.
Use it with an EI Spine MAP and you'll have room for everything you need on a up to 1-day mission.

Awesome vest, but beware smaller guys May 12, 2011

I ordered an RRV from SKD about 2 months ago for dual duty as a class rig but also as a Recce/"Go to Hell" setup (go figure).
The good:
-Dense 1000D Nylon.
-It breathes nicely since it is primarily just a chest rig so your back is nicely exposed. Even with a backpack attatched it still doesn't trap heat like a PC with a full cummerbund,
-LOTS of PALS real estate. With the Bib down, I've got space for my IFAK, 8 Rifle Mags, and 3 Pistol Mags; bib up you could probably slap an Admin, GP or some other pouch
-Works nicely with Eagle's Spine MAP if you're looking for a way to tote along hydration, etc.
The Bad:
-As a small guy (5'8", 170lbs) I really have to cinch the hell out of the straps to make the vest ride up high, the way I like my rigs. Even with a MAP attatched, I've still gotta tighten up the straps and tape up the loose webbing on the sides
-Without a backpack or rear plate carrier it can feel a bit unbalanced.

Great Product September 20, 2010

I've had this vest for a couple years and have no complaints!  It fits great and is very comfortable even though it really isn't balanced being that there is no back.  And being that it doesn't have a back (it does wrap all around my sides but I have a skinnier waist), it doesn't allow you to load up on useless gear, comfortable if you have to be in a vehicle with it on, and is much cooler than a full vest.  I have room on it for two pistol mag pouches, two double m4 mag pouches, a tourniquet, a small first aid kit, and a holster.  I also run it with the bib up and put a triple mag pouch on it for an extra pistol mag or for random small things.  Overall a very great fit, very comfortable, and very customizable.

Eagle Multicam Rhodesian Recon Vest July 6, 2010
Reviewer: Ian from North Shore, MA United States

Seeing the picture of the Eagle Industries Multicam Rhodesian Recon Vest, I was in love. Eagle's new mandate of using PALS webbing dipped in the Multicam pattern I think is a great direction and it is honestly one of the key points that kept me from purchasing a other similarly priced rigs. I had no idea what to expect, as while I've had experience with Eagle's quality gear before, I had no prior experience with this new PALS webbing.

Unboxing the rig I was floored. The Multicam webbing is gorgeous, primarily consisting of the darker shades of the fabric with a few spots of the Crye's off-white coloring. The bib on the RRV was the lighter end of the Multicam fabric and so the contrast between the fabric and the webbing looks very impressive. The overall color of the rig is great.

Included with the vest are 8 rings of coyote brown elastic webbing to keep your straps from getting in the way as well as 4 straps with 1inch ITW Nexus buckles with Male ends on one side and button snaps on the other. These are for securing the straps to the vest and using them to attach either a back plate or hydration options to the RRV.

You also get the attachment strip that enables you to make the shoulder straps run vertical as opposed to crisscrossing. This creates an H look to the straps. I've been told this can be a more comfortable set up if you have a bigger frame.

As to be expected from Eagle Industries the Rhodesian Recon Vest is built solid and sturdy. No misaligned stitching or overly wide or short PALS slots. Having used a rig of lighter material 600D Cordura by another company and it's very easy to appreciate the durability and weight of the heavier 1000D fabric. It just feels so much better and well built.

I have to say that I am both thin, 135lbs, and somewhat short 5foot6 and was still able to get this vest to fit me reasonably well. However I did have to add some ladderlocs to the shoulder straps as the new Multicam dipped webbing is slightly less course than Eagle's other webbing. This webbing seems a bit more slick which causes the straps to loosen up a bit when you are trying to buckle or unbuckle the vest. The straps now stay to where they have been adjusted and are nice and secure. This was an inconvenience but nothing major.

The comfort of the vest is nice, shoulder pads have nice thick padding but I would recommend getting shoulder pads regardless, especially if you are going to be wearing your rig for extended periods of time.

I've yet to have the ability to try the vest with a SAPI plate so I cannot comment on the comfort of the vest while using armor.

Depending on the mission you may need a lot of real estate on your rig or you may wish to roll light. The Rhodesian certainly takes this demand into consideration as it allow for this need on two levels. The first is that the bib in the front can be unbuttoned from the shoulder straps and tucked down and out of the way behind the vest. The other way is that that the lowest row of PALS webbing on the front of the vest can actually be folded up and secured back via button snaps. As someone who uses a padded MOLLE belt this is extremely useful as it keeps a space between the rig and the belt allowing for greater mobility.

In the front of the vest is a Velcro pouch. Inside it is a band of elastic webbing which is just slightly smaller than the width pouch opening. This is good for map storage among other uses. The pouch itself runs throughout the entire length of the rig.

There is also a pouch in the bib which again is good for maps or other thin and malleable items.

The other feature to the rig is that it has the capability to hold armor plates although I apologize as I am unsure of which sizes the Rhodesian Recon Vest can accommodate.

Overall I am very impressed with the rig the craftsmanship is excellent and is backed by Eagle's Lifetime Warranty. Its comfortable. It has just enough real estate to carry what I need and it allows me the ability to roll lighter if need be. It also has the capability to carry armor. The Cons and other slight inconveniences about the vest are easily outweighed by the Pros. If you are looking for a solid chestrig with the extra space if needed then this is a great option for you.
