PIG Brigandine Plate Carrier (ESAPI/BAE IV), Pre-Production Model

"Brigandine" is the word for medieval armor consisting of armor plates attached to a cloth shirt. The PIG Brigandine is today's version of just that- a low profile way to carry just your plates directly over your shirt or soft body armor. The "Brig" is the first low-profile plate carrier we are offering for under $100.

Unlike some of other low profile plate carriers, the Brig is designed with the straps attaching at a lower point than the top of the plate (like the PIG PC), allowing for a higher plate placement than it's competitors. The integral elastic straps allow for maximum comfort and expansion during heavy activity, and allows for the use of PIG side plate carriers for the PIG PC elastic cummerbund. The front and back plate assemblies on the PIG Brig are ordered separately, allowing you to mix and match different size front and back plates.

The plates are a shoehorn fit, and each Brig model is designed around a specific plate contour. The "BAE IV" plate contour will fit our BAE NIJ IV plate or ESAPI plates with a thin soft armor backer of the same shape. Other plate shapes will be offered in the future. This pre-production model comes complete with all the accoutrements for accessories we will be introducing in the future, to include afc (air flow & comfort) pontoons, shoulder pads, and a series of integrated chest rigs.

As with all PIG tactical nylon products, the Brig is Made in the USA.

Just got it November 15, 2012

Carrier looks good had a set of training plates that I wanted to carry and this seemed like a good price. Feel like the straps should be on the outside in the front but it still works.  Definitely buy the suggested strap pads.  Construction is very solid well designed besides the one mentioned above.

A few changes... November 25, 2011

I have used various types of high/low pro armor while doing protection over the years.  I currently run a DBT set of 5mm plates and low-pro carrier.
I was excited when I finally came across this low-pro plate carrier.  I was however a little disappointed when I received it.   The overall design and materials are pretty decent.  The one thing that I would say needs to be changed it the attachment points for the shoulder straps.  They attach on the back side of the font and back of the carrier which makes the top of the plates stick out when the waist strap is connected.  If the attachment points were on the face of the plates it would allow for the rig to sit more flush and it would print less when concealed.  I tested it out with a set of Velocity systems 6mm plates, which fit nicely.  With a few adjustments this could be a great low-pro rig.
